Chaucer on Bridge St

Chaucer-on-Bridge.jpg

Be inspired by the art of the Evans Family at Chaucer on Bridge Street. The gallery showcases Michael Evan’s large-scale hand-turned urns, vases and pots and hosts regular pottery workshops. You’ll also be able to marvel at the detail of Helen’s tactile children’s books. Her original stories are brought to life with magnificent hand-sewn, detailed, textured pictures. If you visit, be sure to ask if you can see the late Dr David Evan’s book, Fame Gold & Shadow. This incredible work of calligraphy and art examines the epic poem Beowulf, written in 750AD and will leave you speechless at Dr Evan’s patience and eye for detail.

Chaucer on Bridge Street Gallery was originally a general store and a billiard hall built in 1886.

There is a range of bead jewellery and Celtic/Saxon jewellery for sale. Michael Evans gives classes in ceramics on Saturday mornings.

It is a friendly place to browse, learn more about the building and look for gifts. Coffee is available to make your visit more enjoyable. The gallery space is also available for exhibitions by other artists.
